Mr Rennie was welcoming the formation of a committee to study the reorganisation of the industry. “Need I say more?” he asked delegates at the association’s annual conference. • “You would not carry on a private business on that basis; there. just would not be the finance to do it We must look closely at ourselves.” The bulk of Mr Rennie’s presidential address comprised a plea for better public relations for the industry. “We must get closer to the consumers,” he said. “Most of the statements made about Tongariro were complete exaggeration of the facts.” . “If a lot more information had been passed to the public a lot of. opposition to the scheme would not have happened,” he said.
