MOTUEKA GAME
Doubts After Date Clash
There is now a strong possibility that the cricket match between Motueka. a small centre with a number of first-class cricketers, and a Canterbury XI will not be played at Motueka on Labour week-end.
At last evening’s management committee meeting of the Canterbury Cricket Association the chairman of the competitions committee (Mr A. R. Arblastef) indicated his preference for club matches on the week-end and members said that the festival match at Wellington was being plaved at the same time.
Mr A. R. Mac Gibbon reported that last year's Plunket shield captain, G. T. Dowling, had provided him with a list of eight leading players prepared to make the trip. The players recommended that the match be played on the Sunday and Monday If club games there were on the Saturday.
The secretary. Mr D. B Hughey, said the secretary of the Motueka association said the association had not realised the clash of dates with the festival match and would look Into the matter.
Change Of Dates Because the Pakistan tour will take place early next year, the dates of Canterbury’s Plunket shield matches against Northern Districts and Auckland are to be changed. Subject to the approval of the other two associations, the dates will now be Auckland on February 4, 5 and 6, and Northern Districts on February 8. », and 10.
Competition matches will now definitely start on October 10. this date being confirmed at the meeting. The hours and duration of play for all grades will be the same as last season.
