SECRETARY APPOINTED
MrE.D.Kwok
The Canterbury Swimming Centre last night appointed Mr E. D. Kwok as its secretary in succession to Mr T. J. Whitta, who will carry on as treasurer in the meantime. At the annual meeting of the centre two weeks ago Mr Whitta gave notice of his intention to relinquish the secretaryship. Mr Kwok has been associated with the administration of other sports, serving as secretary of the Canterbury Table Tennis Associa-
tioh from 1954 to 1960, secretary of the Northern Football Club (Wellington) and secretary of the University Association Football Club in Christchurch. A keen table tennis player, he was awarded a blue while at Canterbury University College. “In allowing my nomination to go forward to the Canterbury centre, I was influenced by the fact that it would be a sad day for amateur sports bodies if a lack of administrators made it necessary to resort to professional officers,” Mr Kwok told “The Press” last night. “Of all the sports bodies, perhaps swimming fulfills the greatest need in the community. As a sport it can be enjoyed individually or collectively. More important, however, is that a competent swimmer endangers, neither himself nor others in the water.”
