8 Swimmers On Week’s Visit
A week's tour by a Canterbury B team of eight competitors is planned for the coming season by the Canterbury Swimming Centre. At the first meeting of the centre's executive last night, the chairman of the champion ships -and tours committee (Mr E. C. Stentiford) said the venture would be part competitive and part educational. Competitive appearances would be made at Ashburton, Timaru. and Oamaru, with edu cational visits being made to such places at Geraldine, Methven. and Otematata. Mr Stentiford said the team would travel by minibus and it was hoped members would be billeted at all stops. The tour was planned for the week after the centre championships in January, he added.
Centre senior and junior and under-age championships will be separated once -again. Mr Stentiford said the committee favoured the end of February for the under-age meeting and that competition be divided Into four sections —under 14, 13, 12 and 11.
The chairman of the carnivals committee (Mr J. H. Drummond) reported that the senior and junior championships would be held between January It and 23. December 19 was the date favoured for the proposed teleprinter carnival embracing Auckland. Wellington and Christchurch swimmers, said Mr Stentiford. The carnival would be conducted by the firm of Lane. Walker, Rudkin, through its teleprinter circuit. Competition would be in two sections, under 12 and under 14. and there would be 16 Individual events and two relays.
