Soccer Assn. Declines To Support Auckland
The Canterbury Football Association will not support the request of three northern associations to hold a special meeting of the New Zealand Football Association on October 7. The Canterbury association's management committee last night declined a request front the Christchurch City club to support the associations—Auckland, Franklin and Poverty Bay —which asked for full reports on the New Zealand team's world tour and the recent visit to New Zealand of the German club, Munster. “Although we have been told that all is well at New Zealand Council,” the letter from the City club said, "it is obvious that somewhere, something is wrong, and when three associations see fit to take a step such as this, we feel their views should be considered." "I think there is a certain amount of merit in this," said Mr T. C. Gottermeyer—"l don't think there is any merit in It," said the chairman (Mr J. Smith) —"and,” continued Mr Gottermeyer, “there has been something wrong for some time.” Mr W. W. Carruthers: It makes no difference if we do support Auckland because there is a special meeting on October 2 and 3. The three provinces have their special meeting. Mr R. Storer said that regarding the "on-agaln, oflagain tours,” Auckland has had more tours cancelled than the New Zealand council in the last five years. I Mr Gottermeyer: But two other associations support this meeting.
Mr Smith: Yes, but they are Auckland’s next door neighbours. Auckland approached Wellington for support but was turned down. Mr Gottermeyer said that he was under the impression that the half-yearly meeting was set down—blit it had now’ been changed to a special general meeting—and Auckland’s requests were only added to the agenda. "I can see why Auckland Is protesting at not getting a special meeting,” said Mr Got termeyer. “There are 15 items on the agenda—and one item has eight sections.”
It was decided that Canter bury would adhere to the agenda for the special meeting.
No Meeting, Says NZFA
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 8 Backed by advice from its solicitor, the New Zealand Football Association council has decided not to hold a special meeting on October 1 as requested by three associations. The council tonight agreed that the special two-day meeting to be held on October 2 and 3 should be sufficient for associations to raise any matters they may wish. The associations seeking the earlier meeting Auckland, Franklin and Poverty Bay—want to have discussions on aspecls of the world tour. Otago has advised it would support this. “It is correct that the three associations have the right to ask us to call special meetings, but the rules do not say they can specify a time or a place.” said the chairman (Mr R. Smith).
