LIFE IN SPACE

Study By Russians (N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW, Sept. 8. Soviet scientists are seriously considering communicating with civilisations that may exist elsewhere in the universe, Tass says. Astro-physicists and radiophysicists met recently at the Bakuran Observatory near Yerevan to discuss extraterrestial civilisations. The method Soviet investigators will follow will be first to search for artificial signals from celestial objects and to transmit signals to possible correspondents in space. To make, this investigation possible work will have to be done on the development of a theory of space linguistics. This, Soviet scientists regard as one of the most urgent problems, Tass says.

A commission has been instructed to work out a plan for providing the material and technical facilities to investigate inter-stellar communication.
