Claimed To Be Constable (N Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 7. An 18-year-old naval rating, claiming to be a policeman, stopped a car containing two off-duty constables, Mr A. A. Coates, S.M., was told today. Sergeant A. Tolich said the rating then assaulted the two policemen, one of whom was temporarily classed as unfit for normal duties, as they attempted to identify themselves. Peter Jerome Devlin pleaded guilty to two charges of assault, wearing the dress of the police when not a member of the force and wilfully damaging a jersey. He was fined a total of £l9. The police said Devlin had found a helmet which had fallen out of a ear.
