Settlement Pattern

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Sept 6. A valuable contribution to the early history of New Zealand should be made by an archaeological expedition to the Bay.of Islands under the leadership of Mr L. B. Groube, of the anthropology department, University of Otago, during the Christmas ‘Vacation. “The southern Bay of Islands is critical in the study of settlement pattern because of the fine charts .left by the French • under Marion du Fresne in 1772,” Mr Groube said. “These incorporate all the pas and hamlets observed by the French during their two and a half months’ stay.”
