TRANSPORT IN CITY

Buses Could Be Solution Speedier publie transport in peak hours could be achieved by using the inside lane next to the curb for bus traffic, the manager of the Christchurch Transport Board (Mr J. F. Fardell) told members of the Christchurch Federated Business and Professional Women’s Club. If curbside lanes could be used in the peak hours fewer vehicles could be used or, alternatively, there could be a more frequent service. Mr Fardell, explaining the transport problem in the City, said the trouble' was the mass of cars coming into the city. “It takes 40 motor cars to get the number of people you can put in one bus Inta the city,” he said. “And the parking of those cars takes up a lot more room than one bus.”
