Combination Impresses In Wingatui Work

"The Press" Special Service

DUNEDIN, August 27. Combination showed that he was a fit challenger for the Flying Handicap, the second leg of the Ashburton double, when he galloped impressively at Wingatui this morning. The trestles were 45 feet out on the course proper. The track was in good order, but a cold southerly made conditions unpleasant. Ridden by his race rider, R. J. Skelton, Combination was accompanied by Sir Athol (G. Mee) over half a mile on the outside of the course proper in 52sec, the last three furlongs in 39 l-ssec. Early in the week Combination struck his near fetlock joint, but it is unlikely that this will prevent him making the trip to Ashburton. For Sure (R. J. Skelton) and Belle El Nil (J. R. Dowling) were not out for time when they completed their trial with half a mile in 55 2-ssec. A stable-mate of Combination, For Sure is one of the fancied runners in the Tinwald Handicap. Believe (J. F._ Carvalho) worked well over the same ground in 53 l-ssec, the open ing furlong in 12 3-ssec. The Bellborough mare is due to have her first race in the Second Knapdale Stakes at Gore. Peter James (R. Wilder) sprinted home the last three furlongs in 40sec. This time was equalled by Pullman (J. F. Carvalho) and How Exciting (J. Coulter). Nelson River (R. O. Cairns) and Fort Garry <B. J. Anderton) were together in 41 4-ssec. Jolly Fox (B. J. Anderton) was given an easy task in 43sec. Azir (C. Clydesdale) ran the first two furlongs In 25 2-ssee and completed five furlongs in Imin 7 2-ssec. On the plough, Casstay (H. J. Powell) dashed

home the last three furlongs in. 39 3-ssec.

Coat of Arms qualified for a jumper’s ticket and will be eligible to start in the Kennels Hack Hurdles. Ridden by his race rider, D. Adams, the Wyandank gelding gave a better display than his companion, Paxette (W. Hastie), over several flights of hurdles.
