“BEST FOR N.Z.”

Labour Win In Britain (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, August 26. A Labour victory at the British General Elections, expected to be held in November, could be beneficial to New Zealand’s trade prospects, according to the secretary of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries, Mr J. F. Phillips, of London, who arrived in Dunedin yesterday. Mr Phillips said that under a Labour administration New Zealand’s and other Commonwealth countries’ trade ties with Britain would not be severed. “This is because it is the Labour Party’s policy not to enter the European Common Market unless safeguards are given to Commonwealth trade. This was, and still is, its policy,” Mr Phillips said. “I believe there is a great future for Commonwealth trade with Britain notwithstanding Common Market proposals.” Mr Phillips said New Zealand had a great potential for industrial development.
