SALARY OF PREMIER

Cook Islands’ Decision (TJ.Za Press Association) RAROTONGA, August 24. The Cook Islands Legislative Assembly today rejected the'recommendation of Mr G. T. Bolt, a former chairman of the New Zealand Public Service Commission, that the salary of the Cook Islands’ Premier after the election of the new Government under the new constitution next year should be £l5OO. The Assembly, by the Speaker’s casting vote, accepted an amendment to increase the salary by £250. The Premier will also get a representation allowance of £250.

The voting on the Premier’s salary was 11-all, and the Speaker cast his Vote for the ■amendment because two official members voted against it and he said he considered the decision of the majority of elected members should prevail.
