Kennedy In Senate Poll

(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK Aug. 25. The Attorney-General, Mr Robert Kennedy, today announced his candidacy for the Senate from New York. Mr Kennedy now has to win the formal endorsement of the state party as its nominee for the seat when it convenes next Tuesday.

He told the press conference he would resign his cabinet post if he won the nomination “to campaign for election." Representative Samuel Stratton, the front-runner for the nomination until Mr Kennedy came back into the picture, has promised a convention fight. His campaign manager, Mr

George Palmer, denounced Mr Kennedy as “a boss-dic-tated state-wide nominee.” With his wife, Ethel, standing beside him, Mr Kennedy explained that he had decided to seek the New York nomination because of the threat by “a new and dangerous Republican assault” to the progress his assassinated brother and President Johnson had made.
