LUMPA SECT CAPTIVES

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LUSAKA (Northern Rhodesia), August 26. More than 50 members of the fanatical Lumpa church sect have surrendered to security forces and some of them were turned loose yesterday in a bid to persuade more members to give up. Two muzzle loaders, 32 axes and 58 spears were found at one encampment where Lumpa members surrendered. No official comment was given oh the future of Alice Lenshina, “prophetess” of the sect, whose three-Week “holy war” cost 600 lives.
