Political Charges
JOHANNESBURG, Aug. 26. Ten white persons, including six women, who were detained under the 90-day law during security police swoops in the last two months, were charged today with furthering the aims of the Communist Party, being members of the party, and taking part in its activities. The Communist Party was banned in South Africa in 1950. They are Miss Anne Nicholson, a 24-year-old art student; Paul Trewhela, a 23-year-old journalist: Norman Levy, a 25-year-old preacher; Mrs Esther Barsel, a 40-year-old housewife; her 44-year-old husband, Hymie Barsel; Miss Sylvia Neame, a 26-year-old student; Dr. Costa Gazidis, a 28-year-old physician; Mrs Pixie Benjamin, a 35-year-old housewife; Jean Middleton, 26; and Florence Duncan, 31
