NEW CITY APPROVED
South Auckland Move (N.Z. Prett Auoeiation) AUCKLAND, August 25. The Local Government Commission has dismissed ail objections to the amalgamation of Manukau county and Manurewa and Papatoetoe boroughs, and issued a final scheme for a South Auckland city. The date the new city is legally constituted will probably be decided by the Department of Internal Affairs and the three merging authorities. The city will have five wards—Papatoetoe, Mangere, Manurewa, Pakufanga and Clevedon—represented by 18 councillors. The first election for mayor and councillors will be fit the triennial local body elections, next year. The commission said Manukau, Manurewa and Papatoetoe had agreed to amalgamate into an “economic and desirable city.”
