JUNIOR RED CROSS
An enthusiastic response was made by 160 primary and secondary school pupils at the annual meeting of delegates of the Junior Red Cross, at the Lady Wigram hall yesterday. After being greeted by a gtiard of honour formed by the children, the Mayoress (Mrs G. Manning) officially opened the meeting in the morning. Officers of the different circles gave reports on their year s activities. The Culverden Juniors presented a play. “We Live and Learn.” which illustrated the spirit of the society, and a puppet show by the Greendale Juniors depicted the Swiss preventorium project. Sweets, biscuits, produce and toilet requisites were donated to the Meals-on-Wheels service. Eight discussion groups considered ways of improving the organisation of the Junior Red Cross. “Some worth while suggestions were made.” said Mrsi R L Brake, the centre president. i
Mrs Brake showed films on Red Cross work in Singapore and Hong Kong. Mis- T. G. Eldridge, North Canterbury organiser of the Junior Red Cross, said she was pleased with the excellent behaviour and enthusiasm of the children. The meeting was chaired by Patsy O’Sullivan (St. Mary's College > and the secretaries w ere Loma Latto and Diane Wallace (Christchurch West High School). Results of competitions were: Pester (open to all Canterbury schools).—Secondare schools: Rosemary Bliss (St. Margaret s College): pmnarv schools. Gillian Rigby (Cobden School. Greymouth) I.
