DRIVERS FOR AGED
Good Response To Appeal As a result of an appeal in “The Press” last Thursday, eight offers have been made to drive elderly people from their homes to classes at the occupational centre in Sydenham of the Christchurch Aged People’s Welfare Council. “We have never had so many drivers from any appeal,” said Mrs M. E. Lawrie, secretary of the council yesterday. “It’s been just wonderful.” Six persons volunteered their services on the day after the appeal was made, and two more offers were received yesterday.
“It will make a difference —we will be able to take many more elderly people to the centre,” said Mrs Lawrie. The council still requires someone to take classes in simple woodwork at the centre. This would be only a part-time task, with two classes a week.
