Higher Price For Coal
(N.Z P A Reuter—Copyright) TOKYO, Aug. 24 The Japanese steel industry is likely to agree to an increase in the export prices of Australian coking coal by 27d a metric ton f.0.b., the Fuji Iron and Steel Company, a leading steel mill, said in Tokyo today. The increase has. been requested for coking coal shipped to Japan through Port Kembla, in New South Wales, where cargo-handling and other facilities have just been modernised and expanded. Fuji said Australian coal shippers had asked for the increase because of higher wages of colliers. Fuji said the Japanese industry was to import 1,400,000 tons of coking coal this year from Australia. The originallyagreed price was 71s 6d a ton, f.o.b.
