Minor Fires
Firemen from New Brighton and the Headquarters station had no difficulty in putting out a small fire in nine needles and grass in the grounds of the North New Brighton School yesterday morning. At 11.57 a.m., three engines from the Headquarters station answered a call to Scott Brothers' foundry, Manchester street. An acetylene bottle being used in work had caught fire from an adjacent gas heater. Very little damage was caused.
Sixty feet of hedge was destroyed by a fire on the property of Mr A. Johnson, 125 Breens road, at 12 59 p.m. Firemen from St. Albans station put out the blaze. A chimney fire in the home of Miss Eileen de Courcy, 532 Moorhouse avenue, at 5.18 pjn. caused no damage. Fireman from the Headquarters station attended.
