A Christchurch man who billeted seven Southland junior tennis players had had to bed down his own children on the floor and his mother-in-law in a chair, the management committee of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association was told last night bv its secretary (Mr B. W. Crofts).
When the 58-strong Southland party arrived in Christchurch for the Canterbury Junior Lawn Tennis Association’s holiday tournament, it was found that instead of 19 children to be billeted there were 26, said Mr Crofts.
Two of the children were placed at short notice and a man, who had already taken two, took the “overflow” of five players, he said. Relief was needed urgently for this man. It was essential that three of the children should be placed elsewhere.
After Mr S. W. Bullen had said the matter hinted of poor organisation on Invercargill’s part, the meeting went into committee.
