The Director-General of the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation (Mr G. H. Stringer) left Wellington at the week-end for Singapore inhere, at the invitation of the Singapore Government, he will give advice on radio and television development there. Mr Stringer will be away until the end of next week and will spend two days in Australia on his return journey.— (F.0.0.R.) Commander J. I. Quinn has taken command of. the naval training establishment of H.M.N.Z.S. Tamaki at Narrow Neck. He succeeds Commander J. G. Williamson, who is joining the staff of the commodore, Auckland, as chief staff officer (technical). — (P.A.) The Rev. Father J. Galvin has been appointed the first permanent chaplain in’ the Christchurch diocese of the Guild of Saints Luke, Cosmos, and Damien, an association of Roman Catholic doctors. The appointment was announced last evening by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. Dr. B. P. Ashby) at a dinner for city specialist doctors.
