Traffic Lights The traffic lights at the intersection of Colombo and Armagh streets were out for a short time yesterday afternoon for routine maintenance. Traffic was directed by a pointsman. In about two weeks the traffic lights at the Batik of New Zealand corner will be replaced: they have been in there for 26 years, and are near the end of . their • life. About October some sets of new lights will be installed at different parts of the city, the city traffic engineer (Mr H. Surtees) said yesterday. These will probably include one set on a Bealey avenue intersection, one in Fitzgerald avenue, and one in Moorhouse avenue. Planning for their installations is at present in progress. Timaru Gasworks The Timaru City Council last evening accepted the quotation of Norman J. Kuril and Company (N.Z.), Ltd., for the supply and installation at £47,700 of two light-flash distillate plants, each with a capacity of 200.000 cubic feet a day. The gas council will be informed, and steps taken to raise a gasworks reconstruction loan.—(F;O.O.R.) Louder Voice On all questions of spreading the industrial development of New Zealand, the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association and the OtagoSouthland Manufacturers’ Association would join as associations to make representations and take action, said the Canterbury association’s president (Mr R. G. Pearce) last evening. “I am quite sure that if we as manufacturers, speak with a South Island voice, we will give an added impetus to what we believe,” he said. Psychiatrists’ Meeting Psychiatrists from all over New Zealand will attend a meeting of the New Zealand branch of the Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists at the Sunnyside Day Hospital on Friday and Saturday.
