BANDSMEN TO MEET
Intensive Course At Lincoln
Seventy-four youths and three young women from various bands throughout New Zealand will meet at Lincoln College on August 30 for a week’s intensive training at the New Zealand Brass Bands* Association’s annual school for junior bandsmen. The ages of those attending range from 13 years to 18 years. They will sit a written examination on arrival and then attend practices and classes in arranging, rudiments of music, musical terms, phrasing, time, and notation. They will also have individual coaching in cultivating style, rubato playing, tone production and alternative fingering of notes. Many of this year’s group and previous years’ groups are candidates for the national band which is to tour Canada and the United States next year.
