Many More Oysters

(N.Z. Press Association)

INVERCARGILL, August 6.

This year’s catch of oysters should show a substantial increase on last season.

So far this season, 73,066 sacks of oysters have been taken from Foveaux Strait beds and with two months to go this is only 1573 sacks below the total catch for last year.

A the end of July last year, 54,094 sacks were caught, and in 1962, 51,224.

Last month 18 vessels sailed on 19 days, bringing in 11,996 sacks, compared with the corresponding month last year when 16 vessels sailed on 20 days for 12,318 sacks. Considerably more could have been taken if the boats had not been working on limits.
