MODEL CAR TITLES
Clean Sweep By Lamport
The Canterbury model car championships, competed for in three classes, were held in Christchurch.
The Scott Challenge Cup for Grand Prix cars was won by F. Lamport, of the Hornby Model Car Club, driving a Special of his own make. This car of Lamport's was extremely fast in the straights and although Lamport was fairly hard pressed he had no real difficulty in holding oil all challenges and winning the four races in the finals.
Second place in the G.P. event went to M. Cowles, of the Christchurch club, driving a 8.R.M., and third was J. Hawker, of Kaiapoi, driving a Special. List year’s winner of the Scott Challenge Cup, A. Hamblin. was surprisingly eliminated in the first round.
The finalists for the sports car event were the same as for the Grand Prix class. Lamport, again driving a sports Special of his own make, was the winner, hotly pursued by M. Cowles, driving a Lister Jaguar, wtth Hawker, driving a Special, third.
Lamport thoroughly deserved his win in the two events for he has regularly filled minor places in several previous championships, holding second place to the winner of the South Island titles.
In the Junior Event, 30 youths under the age of 16. took part and a keen tussle ensued, with the winner finally emerging as K. Frewer, driving a B.R.M. D. Burrow was second and G. Thomas, the Canterbury Championships Junior Cup holder, third.
