APPOINTED BY BISHOP
Mgr. Finerty?s New Post
The new Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. B. P. Ashby) yesterday appointed the Rt. Rev. Monsignor J. Finerty, parish priest of Addington, to be vicar-general of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Christchurch.
The vicar-general has charge of the diocese in a prolonged absence of the bishop and, when the bishop is in residence, shares certain administrative duties with him. The office carries the rank of a protonotary apostolic. Monsignor Finerty has been vicar-capitular of the diocese for the last seven months. *
