Gelignite Exploded

INVERCARGILL, August 4. A gelignite explosion showered an Invercargill man with metal and stones, injured his eyes and pierced the front of his body with tiny metal particles while he was working near Ohai today. He is Gary Beresford Sim, aged 24, of 314 Herbert street. He was admitted to Kew Hospital where his condition tonight was reported to be satisfactory. Minute metal particles were removed from his eyes, which were bruised, but not badly. Other particles are being removed from his body. Mr Sim was working with another man with explosives on a bridge on the main Nightcaps-Ohai highway near Ohai about 1.15 p.m. when the explosion occurred.
