Machinery To Go To Levin
The factory of Tudor Hosiery, Ltd., in Selwyn street. Christchurch, would cease to exist in about six weeks, said a top executive of the company. The factory formerly had a staff of 50.
By that time, he said, all hosiery-making plant would have been transferred to the Levin factory of Lane's Hosiery, Ltd. Tudor Hosiery, Ltd., which had a capital of £50.000. was established in Christchurch 38 years ago. In September 1962, Lane’s Hosiery. Ltd. made a successful take-over bid for the Christchurch company. The company executive said that the policy of the Levin company had been not to replace staff in the Christchurch factory and progressively to shift all manufacturing equipment to Levin.
“This has reached the stage where it is just about completed,” he said. The executive said that no staff of the company would be kept in Christchurch. Lanes Hosiery, Ltd , of Levin has a staff of 150 and capital of £60,000.
