SUSPECTED ARSON

Second Empty House

Detectives last night were investigating a fire which severely damaged the rear of an empty house near the corner of Grange street and Opawa road. The alarm was given at 8.22 p.m., and firemen from the Sydenham and Woolston stations attended. They quickly had the fire under control, but the back porch, laundry, and kitchen were charred.

The fire had a good hold before it was noticed. The house is set back from the road. The fire apparently began in the porch. Last Friday evening, detectives were called to investigate a fire which damaged an empty house in Dewsbury lane, Sydenham. The alarm was given at 8.38 p.m. Firemen considered that the blaze could have been lit deliberately. The houses are about a mile and a half apart.
