BRITISH CREW
No Ob jection By Union (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 20. The New .Zealand Seamen’s Union had at no time asked that the British crew of the Arran Firth be replaced by New Zealand seamen, said the secretary, Mr L. A. Barber, today. He was ■ commenting on a report .late last week that union officials had no comment when asked if such a move had been made.
The Arran Firth, which arrived in Wellington last week, Is to play an important part in the laying of the Cook Strait cable.
On Friday, the Seamen's Union, the Federation of Labour, the ship’s - agents and other interests discussed employment conditions on the vessel.
The Acting-Secretary for Marine (Mr C. W. Franks) said further talks had been held today and would continue tomorrow.
