Obituary MR J. S. SINCLAIR

“The Press’* Special Service DUNEDIN, July 20. The death has occurred of Mr John Sutherland Sinclair, for many years a prominent figure in legal and business circles in Dunedin. He was 81. Mr Sinclair was the son of Sir John Sinclair, M.L.C., who represented New Zealand on the Dominions’ Royal Commission from 1912 to 1917. He was born in Dunedin and attended the Otago Boys’ High School. After starting work in his father's law firn.. Chapman, Sinclair and White, he abandoned his law course for a time and worked in the Trustees Executors and Agency Company. He continued his studies at the University of Otago, and was admitted as .a barrister and solicitor in 1907. He founded his own firm later, taking Mr 1 B. Stevenson as partner. In recent years the firm has been J. S. Sinclair, Gibson and Turnbull. Mr Sinclair served for a .period on the council of the Otago Law Society. Mr Sinclair was elected a member of the Dunedin City Council before World War 1.He was also associated with several companies. He was chairman of directors of both the “Otago Daily Times” and the Mosgiel Woollen Company, Ltd. He retired from the Mosgiel company earlier this year. Mr Sinclair became a board member of the

“Otago Daily Times” in 1922. He was chairman since 1934. Mr Sinclair is survived by bls wife and two daughters.
