SHOPPING CENTRE

Papanui Road Plan A plan to build a shopping centre in Papanui road immediately north’ of the St. Albans Post Office was put to the City Council last evening. The architects for the scheme said it was proposed to set the building well back from Papanui road to provide off-street parking facilities, and to have access and egress available from both Office and Aikmans roads.

They sought to buy the old fire station site to give access.

In approving the scheme in principle, the council decided that vehicles should not enter or leave along the Papanui road frontage, and that a sub-committee should negotiate the sale of council land and consider the plan in greater detail.
