Development Planned

With the Government's agreement for acquisition and development of the housing reclamation area in Salisbury and Conference streets, the City Council was taking steps to raise the loan of £350,000 for the work, the housing reclamation committee reported last evening.

On the committee’s recommendation, the council approved the following development programme:— Erection of the first block with grounds and garage work. A tender for construction has already been accepted. The erection of block 2 12 two-bedroom flats and six one-bedroom flats.

Block 3—Eight two-bed-room flats and four onebedroom. together with reconstruction of Airedale place, completion of the car park and landscaping.

Blocks 5 and 6 —13 onebedroom flats and eight bedsitting room flats in each. Block 4—Eight two-bed-room and four one-bedroom flats, and the completion of all paths, landscaping, and drying greens. Block 7—Three three-bed-room terraced houses, and associated garages. “It will be necessary to call tenders for one stage each six months if the whole scheme is to be completed within the five-year loan period,” the committee said.
