CIVIL DEFENCE

St. John Course Begun A training course in firstaid for civil defence being run by the St. John Ambulance Association was opened in Christchurch on Thursday evening by the Assistant Civil Defence Commissioner (Mr J. Leggat). About 60 persons, mainly women, attended. The volunteers will attend one night a week for four weeks. The subjects include first-aid treatment for shock, wounds, hemorrhage, and fractures, and resuscitation. Mr Leggat outlined the civil defence plan for Christchurch and its operation in the event of a disaster, with special reference to the role first-aid ‘workers would play.
