Albion’s Victory Was On Merit
ALION 11: A. Bateman scored two tries and A. C. Harrison kicked a penalty and a con- ■ version. MARIST S: N. Curtis a try; B. Connolly a conversion.
Because it took its chances Albion deserved to win but the Marlst team must have had some unhappy thoughts after the match about the number of times that fumbles, forward and ill-directed passes, cost it chances of scoring. Because there were so many handling and fundamental errors by both teams the game was scrappy but not devoid of interest, for- the teams did try to play open Rugby. Marist had a greater share of possession through the good jumping of J. F. Burns in the line-outs but its Inside backs, well served by D. Gray, were too hesitant and often squandered possession by kicking and bad handling. Albion, on the other hand, showed more aggression, both in the forwards and the backs. J. Adams and G. Baldwin ran
hard and purposefully, which was all that was needed, and A. Bateman finished off two good movements with tries in the corner. In the Marist pack Burns again played well and T. McKendry and P. C. Angland gave him good support. N. Curtis, who scored a brilliant try after a 70-yard run, was the most enterprising of the Marist backs. K. Baker, W. Joblin and J. McKinnon were the best of a lively Albion pack and Adams and Bateman had their moments in the backs. Referee: Mr P. S. Breach.
