RHODESIA POLICY

Likelihood Of Secession (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, July 19. Southern Rhodesia is still likely to break away from the Commonwealth, says the “Sunday Telegraph” Commonwealth affairs correspondent, John Michael. Official word has reached London from Salisbury that Mr Smith, the Southern Rhodesian Prime Minister, still intends to declare Southern Rhodesia’s independence unilaterally this autumn. This declaration, it is hinted, might coincide with the British elections. Mr Dupont, the Southern Rhodesian Minister of Information, who came to London for “consultations” during the Commonwealth conference, is flying back to Salisbury with what is described as a “gloomy” report on Britain’s reaction to the conference.
