TANKER IN CANAL.—This 15-ton petrol tanker missed a curve and plunged through the guard rail of a bridge into a canal, killing nine persons and injuring 11 others. The accident occurred during the Tour de France cycle race. The tanker was following the race to supply fuel for the police helicopter which surveyed the course.
