BERTH FOR EXPORTS

“Too Early To

Decide”

It was too early to decide that there should be a separate berth at Lyttelton solely for export cargoes, said the chairman (Mr A. A. Macfarlane) to the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday. ■ He ■ was reporting on a meeting with representatives of the Overseas Shipowners’ Committee which had discussed the implementing of some of the recommendations of the streamlining committee.

The main point was whether an export berth could be provided, Mr Macfarlane said. In the meantime the port was not large enough to warrant such a berth. Until the board had the new extension ready it would be limited, said Mr W. B. Laing.
