TROTTING Influence Of N.Z. On Harold Park Racing

Hundreds of trotting meetings are run each season throughout Australia and hardly one goes by without at least one winner with connexions with New Zealand. This is emphasised by the statistics for the present season for Harold Parte, Sydney.

1 Many of the leading stake-winners were bred in New Zealand, while many others are by sires bred in this country. In addition, several New Zealand owners appear in the list.

Mr N. Simpson, of Prestatyn, Wales, but formerly of Auckland, was the leading owner for the season with £11,230 won by Smoke Cloud and Smoke Up. His total was almost £5OOO greater than the second place-getters, the Sydney trainer, J. C. Caffyn, and Messrs S. and G. Aiken, who won £6250, mainly through-the efforts of Hammerhead and Tipperary Blue.

Smoke Cloud had six wins and 10 platings worth £Bl5O In stakes, plating him at the lead of the list of winning horses. This Smokey Han-over-Grattan Dillon stallion is expected to race in the United States next year. Smoke Up (Smokey Hanover—Vernaccia) had five wins and two placings for £3OBO. This smart young pacer went to the United States earlier this year, but so far he has not met with much success.

Mr I. Langford, of Oxford, who races Craig Garrison, Mary Mavis, and Bossa Nova In partnership with the Sydney trainer, W. Picken, is in ninth place oh the list of owners with £4105. Mr C. L. Rhodes, of Christchurch, who has a big team of horses with the Sydney trainer, L. C. Chant, is on twelfth place on the list with £3680. His biggest winner at Harold Park has been Yale, a young pacer expected to develop into one of the best winners in New

South Wales in the coming season.

Fifteen horses earned more than £3OOO in stakes during the season at Harold Park. Smoke Cloud heads the list, followed by Le George (by Stormyway), with £5415, the result of seven wins and nine placings. Chief Vitesse (by Meadow Chief) had three wins and one placing worth £5400. Blazing Globe (by Stormyway) had seven wins and three placings worth £4235 placing him in seventh place. Soho Rose (by Stormyway) finished ninth with £3895. Little Maori (by Light Brigade) finished eleventh with £3520, followed by Craig Garrison (by Garrison Hanover) with £3460, and Smoke Up, with £3OBO. Derby Stream (by Andy Derby) finished fifteenth with £3005.

Leading Sires The progeny of Stormyway had a highly-successful season at Harold Park. They had 27 wins and 50 placings worth £18,480. Stormyway was represented by eight individual winners, including Le George, Blazing Globe, and Soho Rose. Smokey Hanover was credited with £14,885, placing him second on the list. He had six individual winners, which gained 16 wins and 26 placings. Both Stormyway and Smokey Hanover will do stud duty in New South Wales in the spring.

Leading Australian

Golden Adios, with £10,345, was the leading Australiandomiciled stallion. Light Brigade, with six individual winners of 12f races finished fourth on the list with £9610. Garrison Hanover finished fifth with four individual winners of 10 races and £8720.

U. Scott finished ninth with £6200, the result of seven wins and 28 platings. He as represented by five individual winners.

Meadow Chief had only two individual winners of four races, but he finished tenth with £6055. Flying Song finished in seventeenth position with

£4315 from four individual winners of six races, just ahead of Johnny Globe with £4105. Johnny Globe had three individual winners of six races. A number of New Zealandbred stallions also appeared on the list They included Last Scott (£6035), Clan McTavish (£5080), Scottish Brigade (£4840), Flight Commander (£4560), and Free Fight (£4050). P. J. Hall, Who had previously headed the trainers’ list and the drivers* list on three previous occasions, again topped both lists. He had 24 training wins, finishing five in front of L. Moulds. Hall had 35 driving successes, placing him well clear of J. C. Caffyn, who 'had 18 wins.
