CHAMPION TROTTER
Gramel May Race In N.Z. The champion Australian trotting mare, Gramel, might be seen in action at the New Zealand Cup meeting in November, to be followed by the Inter-Dominion Championship series at Forbury Park in February. Inquiries about the races available for top trotters betwen November and March are at present being sought by the connexions of Gramel.
Gramel, a six-year-old mare by Johnny Globe from American Brigade, is owned by Mrs J. A. Jones, of Adelaide, the wife of one of the leading South Australian bookmakers. She has been trained and driven throughout her career by J. Roberts. Gramel has compiled an outstanding record and has had about 30 wins from about 53 starts. In addition she has been placed more than 10 times. Her winnings exceed £lO,OOO. Nineteen Wins Since January 1, 1963, she has had 19 wins, including nine on metropolitan courses. Her metropolitan wins include three free-for-alls and four discretionary handicap events. Her best win was in the final of the trotters’ section at the Inter-Dominion Championship series in Melbourne earlier this year. Gramel’s country wins include one free-for-all against pacers and one open handicap, also against pacers. She holds records in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, and is considered to be one of the greatest trotters ever raced in Australia.
