OPPOSITION CALL
Abolition Of Death Duties
(Parliamentary Reporter)
WELLINGTON, June 19.
Mr W. W. Freer (Opp., Mount Albert) made a call for the abolition of death duties so a wife could inherit her husband’s estate intact when he spoke in the Ad-dress-in-Reply debate in Parliament.
“I suggest it is about time somebody faced up to the moral issue of why a wife, who has helped her husband build up his estate for years, should have to pay death duties when her husband dies.”
This was the best thing that could be given to the women of the country, Mr Freer said. Mr Freer also called for higher payments to doctors. Far too many general practitioners were overworked, he said. There were not enough general practitioners.
