Golden Blossom Works Well

“The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN, June 18. Golden Blossom showed, that she had come to no harm from her winning bid on the last day of the Dunedin winter meeting when she worked with zest at Wingatui yesterday morning in her final trial for the Maronan Handicap, the first leg of the Ashburton double, tomorrow.

Ridden by her race rider, J. Dowling, Golden Blossom galloped five furlongs on the plough in Imin 5 3-ssec and continued a strong gallop to complete the last three furlongs in 39 3-ssec.

Golden Blossom worked on the plough, which offered fast footing. Most of the other fast work was on the inside grass, which was also in splendid order. Promise (M. Parr) and Fort Garry (B. J. Anderton) were accompanied by the Wellington candidate, Kumai (J. F. Carvalho) in an attractive workout over seven furlongs in imin 33sec. They came home the last five furlongs in Imin 6 2-ssec, and the final three furlongs in 40 2-ssec. Promise, which -is in the early stages of a fresh preparation, is a starter in the Dromore Steeplechase. Fort Garry, which has had two outings since he made a fresh start, will be ridden by B. J. Anderton in the Mayfield Hack Handicap, the second leg . of the Ashburton double.

> Lucky Streak Lucky ‘Streak (A. Allan) completed her work by dashing home the last two furlongs in 24 2-ssec. The Lucky Bag mare is in top form at present as she showed at Oamaru, where she slipped the field into the straight and was not tested to win the hack sprint. She will again be ridden by R. J. Skelton in the Moreton Hack Handicap on Saturday. The two-year-old, Gee Jay,

was given an easy task. This Astraeus colt entered calculations for the Lyndhurst Handicap after his bold showing at Oamaru last week. He disputed the pace to near the turn when having his first race for six months.

Golden Century (M. Landrebe) and Ronda (E. J. Didham) were given an easy task. They completed a round of pace work by running over the last two furlongs in 27 4-ssec. The stable apprentice, A. J. Tweedie, will now have the mount on Gee Jay in the Lyndhurst Two-year-old Handicap. He replaces R. N. Marsh.
