Jockey’s "Brief’
Eddie Arcaro, the famous American jockey who retired in 1961 after riding 4779 winners (stakes value 30 million dollars, is due to visit The Curragh in Ireland on June 27. Arcaro has been commissioned by the American Broadcasting Company to make a commentary on the Irish Sweeps Derby for a film to be televised over the American and Canadian networks.
Since retiring, Arcaro, celebrated for his courage and brilliance as a jockey, has used his talents in business to in-
crease his already considerable fortune and, incidentally, to become a star television and radio racing commentator. His “brief” includes coverage of the important races at Royal Ascot this week, for which he has been fitted out with the traditional grey topper and morning dress by one of London’s smartest tailors. After the Irish Sweeps Derby he will tackle the Prix de la Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp and complete the series with Australia’s great race, the Melbourne Cup.
