GUARANTEES FOR HOTEL
No Comment Ry P.M. (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 29. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) had no comment to make tonight on published reports that big new guarantees are understood to have been offered by the Government in order to smooth the way for a major tourist hotel in Auckland. The hotel is planned by the Intercontinental Hotel Corporation, a subsidiary of Pan American Airways. The reports said the total Government guarantee for the hotel was believed to be £2.9 million. Questioned when a decision was likely on the building of the hotel, Mr Holyoake said “fairly soon.” The Minister of Tourism (Mr Eyre) also had no comment on the reports.
