Biggest Ever In N.Z. Port

(N.Z. Press Association)

WHANGAREI, May 29.

Without the slightest fuss or bother, the biggest ship to berth anywhere on the New Zealand coast crept through the Whangarei Heads yesterday and tied up alongside the New Zealand Refining Company’s wharf at Marsden Point. She was the Serenia, displacing 86,000 tons, sitting low in the water and looking, from the rear, something like a monster birthday cake with two tall red funnels as the candles.

The ship brought 65,000 tons of crude oil from the Persian Gulf.
