NEW HEALTH STAMPS

Native Birds Featured Native birds will be the subjects for the 1964 health stamps. The stamps will carry the usual surcharge of Id which is paid to the King George V Memorial Children’s Health Camps Federation.

A red-billed gull (tarapunga) will be featured on

the 3Jd stamp (2id postage plus Id health) while the 4d stamp (3d postage plus Id health) wil' show a blue penguin (korora). Each stamp has been produced in such a manner that the birds are shown as near as possible to their natural colours against an appropriate background. The date of issue will be August 5, and unless supplies are exhausted earlier, the stamps will be withdrawn from sale on November 30.

New Howitzers.—Four of the Army’s new 105 mm. pack howitzers will be shown in Auckland for the first time next Wednesday during the week’s celebrations for the city’s 500,000 population.— (P.A.)
