20 DEBUTANTES AT ANGLICAN BALL
Twenty debutantes were presented to the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev. A. K- Warren) by the wife of the Dean of Christchurch (Mrs W. A. Pyatt) at the Anglican ball in the Winter Garden last evening. The debutantes were trained by Miss E. Cornyns Thomas. The debutantes were Misses Diane Argue. J toned flowers and leaves; decorated the foyer of the' Winter Garden. In the ballroom were hanging baskets' of silver and white-painted; bracken highlighted with; sprigs of holly leaves and; berries. . Victorian posies with silver frills and trails of j green leaves decorated the' supper tables. Specially invited guests in- ; eluded: The Dean of Christchurch (the Rev. W. A.; Pyatt) and Mrs Pyatt, the Archdeacon of Christchurch (the Ven. H. M. Cocks) and Mrs Cocks, the Archdeacon of Akaroa and Ashburton (the Ven- W. M. Davies) and; Mrs Davies, the Archdeacon of Sumner (the Ven. R Plaistowe) and Mrs Plaistowe. the Archdeacon of Timaru (the Ven. H. G. Norris) and: Mrs Norris, the General Secretary of the National Council of Churches (the Rev. D.l M. Taylor) and Mrs Taylor, the Chancellor of the Diocese ; (Mr E. C. Champion) and Mrs Champion, Miss E. Cornyns Thomas and Miss D Graham, debutante secretary. Mrs Pyatt wore a gown of kingfisher green duchess satin styled on simple lines.: with a square neckline and featuring floating panels lined with silver lurex on the skirt. Miss Cornyns Thomas wore a gown of black taffeta made with a square neckline to the fitted bodice, and featuring a box pleat at the skirt back.
