Danger Ahead For N.Z. Industry, Liberals Say
“The Liberal Party of New Zealand is .of the opinion there is a time of anxiety and grave ’ danger ahead of New Zealand industry 7, whether the National Party remains the Government, or the Labour Party takes over,” the chairman of the executive committee of the Liberal Party (Mr A. A. McIntosh) said in a statement. “Mr Nordmeyer in his recent ‘Point of View’ discussion clearly indicated, that in the event of his party becoming the Government it would ■ give close consideration to the control of industry when private enterprise reaches a stage where it exhibits monopolistic tendencies.
“Mr Nordmeyer said that if his Government found vast enterprises ‘difficult to control,’ -it would then take steps to socialise those industries. With the large number of monopolies now being formed, and many are being fostered by the National Government, is it not perfectly clear that the present Government is actively creating a vast field of socialisation opportunity for any future Labour government? “There is no use closing one’s eyes to the fact that all governments change, and the National Party’s end is already very near indeed. What a feast of socialisation it is creating for Mr Nordmeyer if his party takes
office. The Labour Party’s pattern is clear: it too. created, and attempted to create monopolies and it will again. When the appropriate time arrives, its policy is to be taken the next step forward to complete socialism. “All voters must realise that both the National Party and the Labour Party have no regard whatever for the freedom and welfare of the people of New Zealand whe’i both of them create monopolistic monsters, which, when Labour takes office, will become State juggernauts.
“New Zealand’s economy is not in good heart any more than it is in good hands, and the rapid creation of monopolies must cease. “The Liberal Part} 7 , while standing firmly for the freedom of the individual and private enterprise, would certainly prune existing,. and prevent future monopolistic monsters. Heaven only knows what trouble and chaos New Zealahd may have to endure if the combined follies of the present two-party club are permitted to go on. unrestrained,” Mr Mackintosh said.
