How a Christchurch .man came to draw a first prize worth £lOO,OOO to six- Sydney workmen last week was explanied when Mr M. B. Lawrence, of 177 ■ Fifield terrace, returned from a holiday, in Australia.

Mr Lawrence, a retired publican of the Club Hotel,- Sydenham, said that he bought a ticket in a Sydney lottery office and a Uniformed official asked him if he remembered asking him when did the tote open at the Rosehill races two days Mr Lawrence said he did. The official, expressed surprise at remembering Mt Lawrence out of the 22,000 persons at the races and asked if he would like to see the Sydney Opera House lottery drawn. A woman in the office suggested Mr Lawrence be their guest and draw the lottery and this was arranged with the head office. “Altogether it was an enjoyable experience,” said Mr Lawrence.
